Default gauge faces cracking?

the fragile paper that covers the lights on my gauge faces is cracking. Has anyone replaced this stuff? Is it really paper, or is it something else? It looks like paper to me.

Its screen printed and eventually peels off in flakes. Seems to be generally worse if its in a humid climate. I send mine to North Hollywood Speedometer and they will get them back within a week - at least it was last time I used them - about 2 years ago.

Cheers

Yes, been there, done that... decided to go with the silver ones I now have.

You can order them and replace them yourself, just careful when taking them apart, or send to a vendor to do it (Palo Alto Speedometers, etc.)

I sent a gauge off to Pala Alto a few years back and their work was stellar.

I think mine cost 100 US$ for the speedo gauge face not including shipping. Well worth it I think especially when you think of the potential for disaster doing it yourself (myself)

cheers

You can do it... just take your time. Hardest part is getting the speedometer needle out, just need to turn until it stops and then twist a bit more while gently pulling up... out it comes. That and getting the outer ring off, that you just pry out little by little with a flat blade screwdriver.

I have all the gauge faces (except speedo) for sale at $25 each. OEM VDO, good condition. If anyone needs them let me know

To think I got rid of mine... only the speedometer face was peeling...

I don't have photos. I did the change a few months after getting the car. I got them from http://www.nrauto.com/sub_index.asp?spage=Gauges

FYI - these do not have the VDO letters on them... price has gone up... 199.00 for the set...

I have photos of the gauges... just not for the process of installing them:
