My wife is so NOT mechanically inclined that even changing a tire impresses her!
Actually I've been surprised at her response at seeing the car in pieces at times in the garage.
She's been very cool about it.
I just make sure I work on the car AFTER the kids are in bed and make sure the car
is in working order to occasionally pick up the kids from school/errands.
She knows it's a dream for me to own this car. She's the type that would rather see me working
in the garage than laying on the couch reading Porsche magazines (which I still do all the time anyways).

My girlfriend actually helps work on the 964.
Recently took off the intake manifolds, lower valve covers, helped me get the bumper off, helped change out the distributor caps and rotors...
Awesome having someone helping with smaller hands - she can easily reach connectors that I can't, like the one on the back of the AFM.

Guess it's all in perspective. Considering in the dozen years we've been married, $10-15K/yr. either from still earning a bit here and there on working on other guys projects or in money not spent paying a shop, anything I do with 911s or track/racing has pretty much ended up being a wash.
I think what she doesn't appreciate is all the equipment that comes along with being into it at that level. I've got more warehouse space that residence.........

My wife understands and tolerates it but has no car interest.
At least if I am playing in the garage, she knows where I am and I'm not fooling around on her, drinking, gambling, or watching sports on TV.

Well my wife was understandably upset for awhile because i was paying more attention to my car than i was her. I have toned it down to where she is ok with it. When she saw how much money we saved by me doing most of the work on our cars she stopped complaining.
