I know the feeling, I was a first timer a couple weeks ago also.
With A/C, it's a tight fit replacing the oil filter!

I was nervous the first time I did mine. I didn't want to mess up. Turned out to be pretty easy. I was amazed at how fast the oil comes out of the thermostat drain! I almost over-filled my drain pan. I've since bought an extra large one to avoid any spills.

you havent seen oil come out fast until you change it on a 996TT. It comes out straight down like a fire hose

I find disposing of the oil the biggest hassle of the job, all the rest is a pleasure.

I changed mine the first time in a friend's garage....the oil stain from the spill is still there!

I put out a big clear plastic drop cloth. It looked like I was getting ready to do a hit. I emptied my oil out at a local oil change place that I bring my other vehicles to. They didn't mind. They don't do Porsches.
