Default should i trade my 964 US Cup car for a 997 RS.1

Hi all - struggling here - have a pristine 964 andial cup car and debating whether to trade in for a 997.1 RS - do a few track days and then mostly road - always fancied the RS in white!!
debated keeping the 964 (as so rare and great to drive!) and pushing myself to get the RS but wife not too happy with that scenario ! (maybe flowers on sunday will do the trick!!)
would love your thoughts !

I'd say no, but the cars are so different so you can't even compare them. But if you're mind has started to think about a 997 it's probably time to go.

The Andial cars are worth so much money now. Part of me would say hold on to it, because they appear to be collector vehicles (if they start selling for $500,000 in ten years, you'll be kicking yourself). OTOH, with 997 GT3 RSs changing hands in the $80K's now, you could probably sell the Andial 964, buy a nice 997 GT3RS, AND build yourself a nice 964C2 Cup Clone without opening your wallet.

Yeah, as someone who was smack in the middle of a similar discussion at lunch a couple of weeks ago (observer mode only), I listened to the back-and-forth on the market from: '07 RS owner, '07 GT3 6K miles-just-traded-for-'10 GT3 owner, and '10 RS owner. They mentioned a couple of sub $100K RSs floating around that they wouldn't recommend nor touch.

There's a few GT3 track guys going back to 964s and 993s. It would be worthwhile for you to find out why that is. Also, the value of your car will only continue to go up while the value of the RS will only continue to go down, at least for a few years.

I would take the next twelve months to convince the wife that the 964 is an "investment" so long as you keep the miles low and so you don't want to drive it anymore and you need another car. In the meantime, RS prices should come down to the high $80s/low $90s so you will have saved some $$$.

I was just thinking of adding a 964US Cup to my GT3RS in white. Tough choice, indeed. Both is great but the GT3RS is something special, though not as rare as the 964 US cup it makes up for it.

I've seen this, before. My guess is that they're uncomfortable pushing such an expensive car (with extremely high limits) at the track and want something a bit more practical to toss around.

If you're interested in spendng more time at the track, then a GT3 is the wrong choice ... unless you're a very experienced driver, have endless resources or possess some god-given talent. Even a 997 Carrera is so capable that you won't be able to reach its limits without pushing it at very high speeds.

If you like appreciating assets, the 964 is the one to own. If you want to spend more time at the track, consider a "built" race car like Ritter's 3.8.

I say post some pics. As your looking through your pictures, pay attention to your initial gut reaction on how you feel when you see the car. Remember, that initial reaction, is how your truly feel about a situation. Trust your gut ...

Agreed. And please keep Ritter's car on the downlow. I'm trying to figure out how I can get my hands on it.

I've had the pleasure of passenger rides at circuits in all forms of GT3 up until the 997.1. While they were very quick and capable, they all became a distant memory when I got my first ride in a 964 cup (euro). The over riding difference was that I felt like a structural part of the 964 cup and could seemingly feel the movement of each of its wheels. You are very lucky to own such a wonderfully communicative car
