Hey everyone,
I am about to switch to new Moton Clubsports on my track prepared RSA. Any suggestions on spring rates? I think I was running 400lbs/600lbs on my old JRZ's, but i'm not 100% sure. The car weighs in the 2900lb-3000lb neighborhood, and has been modified quite extensively. I don't know much about, or have very much experience with different spring rates.
Thanks,
Roland

Im asuming this is a race car, at 3000lbs I think 400/600 is too soft, you'll need som big bars, I'd rather have the car sprung heavier. Unless you just were in love with it I don't know what you're gaining over your current setup with the JRZs...do you drive smooth tracks or some that need a softer setup?
You can check with moton to see what the standard valving limits are, it may require a different rate, but I would think your well within the range. Joey has a good point if this is a dual purpose car, just didn't sound like that's what you're doing....?

Who's selling you the parts? Situations like this are the poster child for the value added of working with a vendor who knows your platform and intended use.

Hey guys.
Thanks for all the input. I live in Vancouver, BC, and I track at Pacific Raceways (Seattle), PIR (Portland) and ORP (Portland area) mostly.
I am a decent driver, and I feel like I am really pushing the car quite well and learning how to get close to her limits comfortably and consistently.
My intentions with the car are that, although I do still drive it on the street (ie. I wouldn't strip carpet or take out the A/C), I want her primarily set up for heavy track use and I have already done the bushings, sway bars, camber plates, etc., and i'll be running Hoosiers on the car. I have saved some weight in the car in places and it has a good half-cage welded into the car. If it is a little rough on the street, I am not bothered.
From what you guys have said, maybe a 600/800lbs setup would be ideal for me. I am going to do as much research as I can. The Motons I have coming have been shipped from overseas already, and apparently they are actually the very first of the new 15 adjustment clubsports that they have shipped out, period! Wild hey! I am pretty excited, to say the least.
I have heard about going to some sort of a setup with not just a single spring, but a main spring and a smaller one of a different rate as well on each corner? I don't know anything about this......any advice on options?
I would like to firm it up a little I think, that's about where i'm at now.
Thanks again,
Roland

Again, I can't stress enough working with someone who knows what's going on. Steve Weiner did the build on my yellow car for the previous owner, and it seemed to go progressively down hill when hands down here touched it. Back to Steve it went to get straightened out, and that's how I bought the car. I have not touched a damn thing. I can run with any GT3/RS I've come across, except for acceleration. Probably 15 people have driven it, from very knowledgeable 911 racers to even a girl who's raced pro but never sat in a 911. Uniformly praised as a gem of a car.

this would be a typical Moton setup, it's for 993 but 964 would be similarly setup

the 964 Cups were similarly setup hence the 2 spring rates I posted

at this point I would agree with Ken, if your unfamilliar, I would get a shop that has experience with 911 setup. I think you can put together some pretty typical setups by folloing what others have done to a point, but you're past that point. It really is an integrated system, and you could waste good time and money with an adhoc approach...

I see. So the 'main' spring is stiff and the small 'tender' spring is soft......a little more cushion for small stuff, but still with the overall stiffness of the main springs? Generally.
So, 964Cup:
Front Main - 600
Front Tender - 200
Rear Main - 800
Rear Tender - 240
?
Is there much of a performance benefit to doing this as opposed to just a straight 600/800 spring setup front/rear?

Right now I think i'm leaning towards a 600/800 setup, unless a main/tender setup such as the cup cars would make for a better option........there are a lot of options, for sure.
