You could put in the rear seat delete and install whatever you want in the top shelf . . .

Why not the stock side panels? The rears are just for fill anyway. I put in 4" 2-way Kappas and they complement the front 6.5's just right.

Default Speaker

So, here is what is installed in my car. I am not sure how much space is available in the convertible but this arrangement works for most of the times I am driving the car. They are easily removed by unplugging the speakers when my kids are in the back seat. These can be made with two pieces of wood that simply rest on the back or as a box.

I posted this in another speaker thread, but an audio installer mentioned Bass Shakers under the seat as an alternative.

my 964 convertible has a 12" MB Quart sub installed on one side of the rear seat delete, 4" 2 way MB Quart in the rear compartments and a 2 way 6.5" MB Quart in the front. 300 W 5 channel amp - nice music at 70 MPH with the top down if you want. This system came with the car when I bought it. I replaced the head unit with an Alpine to be able to connect my iPod. The set up is "extensive" as the Porsche delaership who did the pre-purchase inspection defined it. I didn't mind, I like nice audio systems. I'm actually doing a lot of research right now to get rid of the "premium" Bose system on my 997 Carrera S. My god, the Bose on the 997 is the worst system I have ever heard in a car, including my grandpa's 3 Watt one-speaker system in his 1953 Opel Kadett......
