Seriously consider the time, cost and effort. Believe me I know.
I was told (but evidently did not listen) that I would be better off buying a car that had had most of the engine work and track set-up already done. Live and learn.
I've since moved to a full on race car (996) and should sell the 964 but have been reluctant to do so, but its just not getting driven. It's $30k or I would consider a trade for a stockish 964/993/M3 (+/- cash) .
I went kind of silly on this car (not the first nor the last I expect) having set out to make a street legal car that was optimized for HPDEs. I prefer the track bias- others might not, but it could be easily amended by deleting the rollbar and putting the rear seats back in (which I have).
I will likely forget a few things but in the main the car features:
-complete 3.8 top and bottom end re-build by Kinetic and Graham Everett Motorsports including Carrillo rods, PMS and Smart bearings, GT3 oil pump, dual aux. oil coolers, Ti springs and retainers, head work by Sunbelt, knifed/drilled crank, LWF, RS clutch, RS trans mount, Rennline RSR engine carrier, semi-solid engine mounts, Hargett upper and lower valve covers, rebuilt distributors etc. etc.
-mapping by Steve Weiner/Rennsport (circa. 275 whp)
-custom dual Burns muffler exhaust with Fabspeed headers ( also + stock exhaust)
-TT front brakes with 968 turbo rears (Pagid Yellows)
-brake bias adjuster
-JIC Comp coilovers with rear remote adjusters
-urethane control arm bushings
-CCW 18’ wheels w/Toyo RA-1s
-Corbeau Pro seats w/Schroth belts
-DAS rollbar
-HID headlights
-RS door panels
-RAID steering wheel w/ airbag
-Shift-i shift light on dash
-Coolshirt wired and plumbed
-powdercoated engine tin, valve covers and fan
The car pulls hard down low and revs freely to 6800 (peak hp is at about 6500). It is very balanced with min. understeer. Very capable on the track but nice driving in the North Ga. Mountain roads and around town.
Btw its originally a Calif. car so is very clean and rust free. That said I would rate the paint about an 7.5/10 with minor chips on the hood and headlight trim rings.
Lots of photos upon request. That said, serious inquiries only pls.
Hey David, I've been following this build ever since you got it. Very nice ride indeed and very tempting, problem is you're just a couple of months ahead of my schedule. I got a serious buyer in my 996 but need a bit of time. How fast do you want to sell it?? PM me all the details and we can chat.
Could be. Its not so extraordinary I don't think. Anyone who knew what they were doing (er, not me without much help) would likely end up with similar. Maybe Pauter rods instead of Carrillo, or Mahle pistons vs. JE, but pretty much the same thing.
I left 30hp on the table by sticking with stock cams and Motronic. Motec and say 9m cams would have been nice but I had to draw the line somewhere. Well, I didn't but did as soon as I mentally moved on to the 996.
Yes, those were the days. I was so much younger and wiser.
I didn't slide down the slippery slope, I jumped off the cliff.
I'm loosing it too. I've been dreaming of buying an unmolested 964 and jumping off the cliff much like you. Then the wisdom of the RL vets creeps in reminding me to buy a car like yours, already well-setup by someone moving on to greener pastures. Too bad my timing is off, otherwise I'd be seriously interested. I'm sure you'll have no shortage of interest.

Whenever and if ever you do, don't do it unless money is no object or you are extremely particular about what you want. It will cost you 1.5- 2x to build instead of buying ready made, this ignoring the time and hassle factor- which is plentiful.
