Front License Plate Hole Weirdness
So the overfilled oil change made for a crappy Tuesday (see my other post) but stranger still was the placement of the front license plate holes.
Got the car registered. Slapped on the rear plates w/o difficulty with my personalized messaged plate holder (I would tell you what it is but you might want to steal the tag line. Let's just say it has to do with Viagra).
Went to the front. Holes predrilled and set up for a front plate (this was originally a California car and now is back in that state) BUT......
The holes are 10 inches apart, center to center. Plate will not fit. No standard license plate holder will fit because they have the holes predrilled to fit the holes in the license plate.
I'm not interested in one of those "no hole bracket" sort of things. Did an eBay and Google search for plate holders that have holes 10 inches apart AND will hold the plate securely within the bracket. Nada.
Can anyone put me on a source for a license plate holder that I can drill the holes myself? The frame must be at least 11-12 inches in length to accomodate the two drilled holes 10 inches apart.
Any suggestions would be most welcomed.

Perhaps you just need the factory license plate holder? The part number is 928-701-050-03, the spacers are 964-701-505-00 (qty 2) and the holder nuts are 999-507-040-40 (qty 2)

Burning Brakes
Holes in the bumper cover are for the bracket
The holes on the bumper cover are for the license plate mounting bracket, not the license plate. Once the bracket is mounted, the plate mounts directly to the bracket.

So, the license plate mounting bracket described by Rob and SKM has holes that are 10 inches apart to mount on the bumper, not the standard license plate bracket holes which are much closer--correct? Can somebody verify this before I buy it? Thanks.

Correct Gdog. I was getting tickets in Los Angeles for not having a front plate attached to my car, so I simply drilled new holes in the licence plate itself and used the factory holes instead of purchasing the factory plate holder. Either way will work.

I just made a trip to the parking lot to measure. My front license plate bracket attaches to the bumper with 2 screws, approx 10" apart.

Porsche makes an all inclusive kit to install a front plate without punching holes in the bumper. I am 99% sure kit part number is 91170195300. Available from Sunset Imports for $28.57 plus shipping. No affiliation, except I bought one in Dec. The kit is definitely the easy way to go.

Thanks all. The holes are already predrilled on the bumper so I'm going with christallon's idea and save some bucks. Pretty easy to drill the thin Cal plates.
