Time to get a new mechanic or at least make him stick to fixing things rather than designing them

It is totally in appropriate for 964 fronts to be moved to the back.

If you are going to use 965 fronts(good choice though you could also use Big Reds and 993RS/tt 2 piece rotors) then if you want to retain the parking brake use 993 rear calipers w/o a p/v. If you are willing to give up the parking brake there are other options.

here are some hyd bias bias #s, on some the rotors pull bias to the front or rear from these #s
all 911 thru '83 1.6 w/ no p/v
3.2 Carrera 1.3 these cars are heavily rear biased and needa p/v badly
964 1.72 w/ a p/v that isn't needed

964RS 1.572, rotors pull bias further forward net bias is more like 1.7
965 1.572 as w/ 964RS
993 1.572
993RS 1.472 this is close to the limit, the car needs to be set up w/ the bias in mind

your car w/ 965 front and stock fronts in back 1.16 rotors do pull bias a little more forward but nowhere near enough

additionally the 964 front calipers want a 28mm thick rotor, using them on the 24mm 964 rears is potentially very dangerous due to the potential for hyper extension of the caliper pistons

hi Bill:

thanks for your advise, I will tell the mechanic to stick to basics.

Any idea where to find good price rear 993 calipers so that I can do the combination you suggest?

By the way what is the P/v?

Thanks.

P/V = Proportioning Valve
