Default Tidy up the sagging engine bay insulation in a 964

Hello All,

I thought I share my $5 tidy up for a sagging insulation in a 964 engine bay.

Here is the familiar picture:

After the trip to alloy shop off cut section where I bought a 45mm * 1.6mm flat bar.
I cut it into length and drilled a few holes.

After a a few adjustments to the holes it finally fitted nicely. It is not perfect but certainly better than before.

Best Regards

Hi Stefan!
Are the plugs threaded or just pushed on?

Thanks

The plugs are installed by pushing on or threading. To remove them, you unthread them.

The plugs are threaded. The PO of my car made a halfhearted attempt to pull the sagging insulation out leaving most of it behind, I spent Sunday afternoon trying to remove the rest - soooo much fun fishing dropped bits out from atop the engine

Cheers

You're just a 'been-there, done-that, sank-a-flag-pole-init' kinda guy.

What are the plugs that you have used?

Looks great! (Like the idea in Jim's thread of painting black also)

They are the same screw on black discs that hold the mat up there from the factory.

Has anyone changed the insulating material to modern equivalents to reduce engine heat into the cabin.

I guess RL will be using gold leaf in Humpty Dumpty as insulation just like the Mclaren F1

I ripped all mine out last weekend and used Varsol to remove the glue - 5 lbs weight loss and more room to work.

Marc
(oh yeah, and put a garbage bag as a tarp over the engine - makes getting all the little bits of foam out much easier after).
