993tt engine in 964 C4, possible?
So, it's rebuild time. Was considering adding boost to my current engine while out, but was wondering if a 993tt would work? I understand that the computer/harness would need to come with it, but what else? Would it bolt up to my 5 speed okay? Would a lot of tricky wiring/programming need to be done to make the awd still work? Anyone done this? I have seen a few in the search, but they were C2's I believe. By the way, the dismantler says it would be a direct fit, with the exception of the exhaust, which I understand due to our cars being narrower.

It should fit in there. I have seen many motors for sale and say fit 964/993. Yes you will need the computer etc just because it is a turbo. I don't think the motor will realize it is a c2 or c4.
There was a gentleman here that put a 993tt motor into a 930.
I beleive it should be fairly easy if you buy the complete motor and wiring and computer.

Although the 993TT engine will fit in a 964 can the 964 C4 AWD system reliably handle the additional HP and torque of the motor?

What about the PDAS? I would be more worried that the AWD system wouldn't be compatible with the 993 ECU. Any thoughts? Again, it seems that people that have done it have put it into a 2 wheel drive, or I think there is a cab where the person brought all of the driveline from the 993 as well, which would make the project way too expensive. At 20k for a low mileage 993tt, minus the core from my engine, this looks like a worthwhile alternative if it is possible.

I have seen where people have modified their engines with turbos, up into the 500HP range and still had the stock trans and driveline. Obviously, I wouldn't want to drag race it all the time.

i have got a 993 na engine in mine 964.c4
with the 993 ecu and it works just fine.
the 993 engine is a big improvement, runs so smooth and it is a bit quicker,
would love to have the turbo but that is to expensive for me.
the exhaust system will not fit straight forward.
the two exhaust mufflers have to be cut a little
with the 993 ecu and it works just fine.

things that had to be changed for my car,
heating hoses a bit longer
the two mufflers
change the ecu and wirering loom
to be sure we mounted the steering pump of the 964 and not the 993 one perhaps not nessecery but just in case
and made something for the cruise control with i want to keep using
you know it still works at 260 km ph
and for the c4 no problem at all, for the turbo i would use a different clutch
on the second picture you can see that the mufflers are cut a little on the top
to make some extra room for the bumper
i don't know the how much different the shape of the turbo exhaust is

Thank you very much for the response. Nice job by the way. At first glance, it looks the same as the original. One last question, is that a wide body? I'm narrow, which may give me more exhaust issues if yours is not.

It's definitely possible, my friend built a 964 speedster with a 993TT motor in there, it was a bada$$ car, even Alois Ruf flew out to L.A to check it out for himself

That would be nice in a speedster, any idea what other issues he had to overcome? Such as the aforementioned alarm, etc? Any pics?

That is an awesome car, but again he didn't have awd to deal with, same as the speedster conversion above that. There is another RSAmerica that had it done, but brought all the 993 parts with it for the awd. My mechanic is looking into it, I think the labor part of this combo will kill the project for me. I'll probably end up turboing what I have.
