I remember first seeing one in 1989 at the autoshow and at the same show a cut away of the C4 was on display. Still have the copper colored C4 poster they were handing out.

you can import one car in your lifetime to the U.S. that wasnt legal in the U.S. at the time of manufacture.. but you still need it to be made us legal in some ways

Hawk, you should have bought it while it was so cheap

Canepa Design has a couple...

(C.P. web text)
Canepa Design was instrumental in the passing of the “show and display” legislation, which allows these sought after vehicles to be driven in the United States for the first time. In addition, Canepa Design has invested five years of research and development to bring this awesome supercar to a new level of performance including California and Federal emissions compliance. An extensive engineering and development process including a new sequential engine management system, Garrett Air Research twin turbo system, stainless exhaust with dual catalytics, upgraded fuel system and wiring harnesses, has resulted in dramatic performance improvements.

I think Bill Gates was one if the first one to import one into states. He offered to do a computer crash simulation to federalize car, DOT said no thanks.
