Default Help! flag mirror removal

I have the mirror hanging by the wires and the door panel removed. I do not see a plug disconnect inside the door. Thank you

There isn't one - oddly, I believe you have to cut them...

On my 1991 I removed the glass and behind it there was a plug.

I cut mine, Its a little painful but once you get those aero mirrors on you will forget all about the initial trauma.

I believe the connector is behind the A post. It's possible you may get to it via the footwell trim, but I'm only theorising.

Thanks for you help. I think I'll just cut it and make up a connector. This will make it easier even for the future also.

Just in case you don't know, the aero mirrors have 6 wires and the 964 loom (where the car came with flags) has 5 wires. The red and white wires on the mirror have to be spliced together and plugged into the red/white wire on the loom.

There is a tool for pushing the pins out, it exists, I've seen it.
and it looks like a $1 jeweler screwdriver..

Oracle, I used the sharp end of a small school compass to push out the wires of the plug.

In hindsight I suppose I would just cut the wires close to the mirrors. I just couldn't bring myself to do it. It was a pita to remove the glass and locate the plug.

I ended up cutting the wires. When I removed the mirror and pulled on it I ended up with just a couple inches of wire, so there must be an attachment inside the door that I could not find. After cutting the wires about an inch from the mirror base I then took it to the work bench and soldered and shrink wrapped a 6" extension to each wire and on the other end used small round push crimp connectors. To install the connectors on the wire inside the door I attached a steel wire to the cable and then fed the cable out a hole next to the inside door switch plug area which gave me more wire to make it easier to attach the connectors then fed it back up to the mirror hole. Now if I ever have to take the mirror out again it will be much easier. I dont know why the factory didn"t have an easy disconnect.

I suspect the factory pre-assemble the doors, complete with mirror, glass, switches etc. before fitting to the car so it would be easier, from a production point of view, to attach all the conections inside the car rather than fit the mirror afterwards.
