I was driving my 138K mile 1990 C4 to work this morning and proceeded to take my regular highway onramp (two cars in front of me). Midway on the ramp, I heard warning beeps, warning lights went on with differential light etc.. Luckly the car ahead of me stopped on the ramp (I have no idea why) ..so I stopped, turned off the ignition and restarted. No problems then.

Prior to it occuring I didn't hit any ice or snow..didn't feel wheel slippage.

Any ideas??

Do a search. There was also a thread just recently. Coils and/or plug wires.

One of my plug wires (no idea why to this day) was tripping my AWD sensor, i.e. saying that it was broken and started yelling at me. Had my mechanic take a look at it and he had it fixed pretty quick. Still don't know exactly what caused it (I really should ask) but that could be a starting point.

Been there, done that, in my car changing both ignition coils solved the issue, but I also changed - after the issue was solved - rotors, distributor caps and plug wires just to be sure.

Sometimes it does it again now, but only in the highway and in longer trips,never in shorter trips,now I only get the ABS light

Also verify that your brake fluid reservoir is at the max. The car's all wheel drive system will flip out if its not. Fortunately, its an easy fix. Ask my how I know.
