Default Dodgy coils

I have been a rennlist member for a few years but this is my first posting on the web forum. A little while back there was considerable discussion on the merits of replacing ignition coils as most cars were approaching 20 years and thus I installed a new set in April 2008.

16 months and 10,000 kms later my car started hesitating on the freeway so I decided to pull over to the emergency lane whereby the engine stalled before coming to a halt. The car was towed to the garage whereby every item to do with electrics and fuel were systematically checked and even replaced with a spare one from another car in the garage but still no luck in starting.

The final item to be removed and replaced with a spare pair were the coils and bingo the engine fired up.

A heavy price to pay for something that was meant to last for a further 10 years

I replaced my 1st coils at 63,000 miles, no problems yet, 7,000 miles later. Were they Bosch coils? Perhaps you got a bad set. I also have a Forest Green Metallic C4.

Default dodgy coils

The new coils were silver colored bosch. Believe 1990 was the only year that forest green was available.

Yup , the new coils from brazil fail .
Not all of them fail , but some do .
The new coils that were put on my car failed .
When I returned the coils to the shop that put them on
he had a small pile of failed new brazilian coils that he was trying to get replaced .

I have had the same experience. One of my new Brazilian coils failed in less than 1000 miles.

I wrote to Bosch expressing my concern that so many people on the forum had experienced
problems, but they said they knew of no issue. I asked if they made another model of coil
of the same spec - they said "no".
