This was a 993 Group buy, that has now been opened up to the 964s.

Do the lower valve covers for the 993 have the holes for the spark plug clips? Do the lower valve covers for the 993 have machined in clips for the spark plug wires? If not, how are the lower wires held properly?

Sure, wait til I buy mine then everyone get together.

I've had mine for the 964 about a month and the lower covers do not have holes for plug wire clips.

I used some rubber covered metal wire clips for attaching electrical wire to surfaces for mine. They can be found in the electrical departmant at Lowe's and Home Depot. They're "P" shaped, similar to electrical conduit clips, but smaller and with the rubber insulation. I just put them under the washers and nuts used to hold the covers on. Works great. The extra "washer" doesn't seem to be a problem with the extra stiffness of the Tarett covers.

What is the purpose of installing these? Are they purely cosmetic?

The early 964 valve covers are magnesium so over time they pit and have warping issues. Later 964s use aluminum which work much better.

Would that cause leaks from the valve covers?

Mine were early magnesium and the paint was seriously flaking inside and out. I replaced all with Hargett. It does not have the plug wires holder, but I have Heat Sheets which work great for holding and protecting the wires.
