First, you need a flow bench so you can measure what you are doing. After than, you'll need to determine the choke area of the port compared to the valve size. Then you'll want to determine where to modify the port to increase the flow with increased velocity or at the least without losing velocity. Then you need to figure out how to make all the ports exactly the same ie CNC machining or using templates and measurements.

With that said, the 964 port is a good port that needs some cleaning up. DO NOT enlarge any area of the 964 port or you will most likely lose performance.

It sounds like you are throwing a lot of parts together from a lot of different manufacturers. You might be better served to talk to an experienced builder about a plan to best make your budget meet your objectives.

Just my .02.

Edit: Geoffery has you covered. I was hoping he would get in on this thread.

Geoffrey

How does one "modify the port to increase the flow with increased velocity or at the least without losing velocity" and "NOT enlarge any area of the 964 port or you will most likely lose performance."

CELAL. If I were you, and especially because of the amount of money you are spending on your project, would send my heads to someone with a lot of experience in that field, it can make or break the outcome. If you are on the east coast, talk to Geoffrey, on the west coast talk to Steve Weiner.

Just my 2 cents.

talk to Geoffrey at racetek engineering . He designed my 3.6 and I am willing to make a small wager that unless you get a pro involved, your motor will make less horsepower than the impressive numbers from my dyno session. I have actually seen a 3.6 motor with custom cams pistons etc that made less power than the factory stock.
here is a string on pelican 964 that gives you a little more info on the car and motor. some motor info on page two

Bob Farmer (Farmer Automotive) in Indiana has claimed to improve the flow on 964 heads. Might be worth talking to him, but set aside a couple hours of your schedule when you do. Bob LOVES to talk Porsches.
