Default Front tire size.

I will be buying new tires this spring and was wondering which size front tire to go with, my wheel are 7 1/2"J. The choises are 205/50/17, 215/45/17, 215/50/17, 225/45/17 225/50/17.
The rears will be 255/40/17

Thanks

If your wheels are 7,5 you can safely use 225/45 x 17 and that´s the size I would recomend since they are wider than 205/50 x 17 and same height as the rears.
I can´t use them because my wheels are just 7 inches

225/45/17 will work great with the 7.5" or 8" wheel.

I had that tire size in a OEM Cup I 7" wheel at one point with no issues whatsoever. Did plenty of track days with that set up and all was well.

I put a set of 225s up front with 255s at the rear on my 17" Cup 1s and it was fantastic!

Is it best to stay with 205s with 7.0?

I used 225s with a 7" wheel and they helped cure the understeer and make the car more neutral. YMMV.

No, 225s are fine on 7" rims. Just take a look at the tire data for 225s that shows a 7" rim is acceptable. In most modern OEM applications, the front wheels tend to be on the narrow end of the range (ie: 235s on 8", which have a range of 8-9.5").

Thank guys, would like to go wider w/225s. I've noticed some understeer but attributed it to the P-Zero Rossos that came with the Cup 1s (C2 turbo) wheels I bought; 7 & 9s.

225s work great on 7" wheel...
the Porsche Factory put 225s on 7"x16" wheels on the rear of most SCs and 3.2 Carreras from'78-'88!

I have run 225s on 7" wheels on the front of my '99 Boxster and also on the front of my C2 coupe running Cup IIs.
Street, AX and Track they work just fine...

Would wider tyres on the front cause more or less understeer on a C4??

Less understeer on a C4 provided you have everything else stock.
