Fan belt nut very hard to remove
Having problems removing my fan belt nut. I did order the 12point tool from Porsche and it broke as soon as I started to try and break the 24mm nut free!
Waiting on a replacement 12point Wrench to get in from Porsche and will try again. Something tells me it will break again. There is a little corrosion on it but it's not that bad.
Any advise?

PB Blaster. Heat. Patience.
I use an electric blow torch to minimize flame and fumes. Apply steady pressure (about half of what it took to break the tool), and tap the nut with a brass drift (never strike directly with a hardened steel hammer). Use thread paste on re-assembly, but use only 2/3 of the recommended torque. The nut will be just as tight as if you dry-torque at the recommended torque, and the corrosion will not be there next time.
The tool kit should have the star wrench. I guess they meant for this to be a roadside repair.

The tool broke as I applied pressure counter clockwise to remove the nut. I looked at the 12point tool and the head just twisted off! The material is not the strongest anymore.
Im currently working in Germany and had a look in a hardware store here, they dont sell it. I was told by Porsche here that you can only get it from them. Funny right!
I looked in the tool kit that came with my car and it does not have the star wrench in it. It may have broke on the last owner!
The tool was 22.00Euro from Porsche in Frankfurt Germany.

These are known as 'triple-square' or 'XZN' bits, and are available at automotive parts stores, as well as on Ebay.
What the dealer told you is ridiculous.

$5+/- at NAPA. You need to be sure you get one short enough to fit in the space or cut it down.
I paid $25 at Pelican I think then lost it. Thats when I went to NAPA.

What type of tool did you have on the nut and the 12pt. Torx head and how long was it or in other words what kind of leverage did you have on them? Which one were you turning ccw, the nut or the shaft?

The story behind this belt is a car dealers Mech. replaced it prior me picking it up. He must have used to many shims to start with. I can only see one shim on the outside under the nut. the rest must be stacked up in there between the pully halfs.
The belt on it is new. When driving the car from London back to Frankfurt I started to hear some mild squeaking. After testing the turbos a few times on autobahn! the third push on the turbo gave me a fanbelt light. The Belt is now pretty loose and you can accualy turn the fan by hand with only a small amount of resistance from the pully. There must be 1-2 inches of play on the belt. The RPM gauge is sticking now also, Im hoping this is because the belt is loose causing lower voltage from altenator??

May give that a try, I first sprayed it with some stuff used for rusty bolts and waited a few min.

Will now have to wait till after the new year to fix this. Will try some local auto-part stores to see if they have the tool with a hardened head. The tool from porsche has the quality of a rusted wood nail!

I had a 24mm closed end wrench thats about 1ft long on the nut.
The 12pt had the high end qaulity tool from porsche the handle part may be 5-6in
I had the 12pt held in place while applied steady force to the nut in a CC direction with the box end wrench on the nut
juts kept pushing and the 12pt head just twisted right of.
Must be alot of corrosion thats not vissable.
Noticed I need to replace engine mounts during this heated event! This is my first 911 and its already
looking like it will be keeping me very busy and happy in the end

Sorry you had the problem. Cheap tools get you hurt, and do not save any money when you consider the extra time required. Good luck getting a professional-quality tool.

Here is a link. I use this kind so I can get a wrench on the triple square bit and get some leverage. The socket bits like this dont have enough clearance for the ratchet drive.
