Question for the forum:
I am pulling the engine on my 89 C4 and have everything disconnected. I have checked that twice. I don't want to drop the trans so I have removed all four bolts that connect it to the engine. The engine is currently sitting on an ATV jack still in the car.
I cannot get the engine to pull from the transmission. I try rocking back and forth but that does nothing to help and looks like it is starting to wear on the four studs. What am I missing or do I just need to keep pulling?
Thanks in advance!

I have never done this myself, but it is my understanding you need to screw in some sort of slide hammer, or use a tube with larger dia. than the pin, and then pull it out with a longer bolt, maybe some of our resident mechanics can give us a better idea.

I was doing a search and found a thread about that, but my problem is that number 4 above is in the way and I cannot get it out.
The engine is still attached to the transmission and they are both still in the car.
I really appreciate all of the timely responses!!! Thank you!!!

I just did this on a 90 C2. I threaded a bolt in and just pulled it out by hand, no problem. I'm sure some people are not that lucky, but alas... Be extra careful pulling it out because the little needles in the bearings are going to fall all out in the bell-housing probably, especially number 8 since it's harder to get to. It's really much easier just to drop the trans too in my opinion.

#4 should have a hole and you can grab it with a pick and pull it out. However, if someone swapped #8 with #4 by mistake, then you'll have to destroy #8 to get it out by drilling through it carefully.

I wrestled with this for ages and one day randomly tapped it IN with a hammer(probably through anger) and is seemed to dislodge the crud that was stopping it come out and it just slid right out after that.
Some really useful ideas in this thread too:

Take it easy though as you can damage the case if you get too carried away with the hammer

I love it when I win!!!![thumbsup](https://rennlist.com/forums/graemlins/bigok.gif)
Got the engine out without too much trouble after I had to punch a hole in part number 8 above that my mechanic in Georgia (not a porsche mechanic) stupidly swapped with number 4. Good news though, it came right out after I pulled the needle bearings out.
Now the real work begins
