Great news! Looks like you have a fun road trip in your future, take lots of pictures.

Another longhood owner buying a 964 for a 'convenient' car! That's my kind of 911 guy, next you'll need an impact bumper Turbo?!

I drove my 964 home from the Northeast to NC. North Carolina would not issue a temp tag, they suggested that if I did not want to register my car before picking it up, that I should contact the New York DMV for a temporary tag. I ended up making the purchase before picking up, so I went to my local license plate office and got my real plate to take with me. I've also had buyers willing to let me keep their plate on a car long enough to drive home from out of state in the past, but made sure I had all paperwork regarding the sale of the car with me (bill of sale, title, etc.). YMMV...

well the car is home. it got trucked instead of driven, cos timing didnt work out. intercity lines are great, they drove through the december holiday storm ! photos comin next post, couldnt find the downloading thing for the camera.

car spent time getting checked out and stuff. nothing shocking, although as usual you woulda liked to have spent less. i've only driven it 25 miles. a firm ride, despite being stock. compared to the '71 and my '90 saab 900.

halfway home from the garage the CEL came on, i did the gas pedal code test thing, it's flashing 1222. O2 sensor stuff?

wheel shake at 60mph - guess that's a balancing job

brand new rear brakes sqealing like a pig. will it run in and go silent, or is this doomed?

lot of tiny paint things, what do you do with a couple of quarters-sized dead lacquer spots ? i know touch up paint for scratches and small paint chips, but for something of slightly bigger area and dead lacquer?

the tip is a better thing than i expected. i thought it would be sorta like wife's 2003 beetle auto-tranny, which is plastic-auto tip-wannabe. but the 964's tip is much more sure-footed, despite being 20 yrs older !

thanks for all the encouragement !

I bought my car in Tampa and drove it to West Texas. The owner let me leave the plate on and I mailed it back to him when I got home. No problems at all. Make sure you have a PPI and buy an extra fan belt and fuel relay just in case. You will love your new car!

am looking at probably a c2 tip, it will be the 'convenient' car to my 1971 911T

am looking for it being stock and reliability. LSD would be a terrific, but doubt there are any with tip, or am i wrong?

the choices out there are higher mileage, these days. i've searched for ppi issues on 964s, but i guess with the age and mileage, expect to need some work. having a 1971 and a different make 1990, i'm used to that.

let me ask this another way, if i were to ppi and buy a 964, what would i look for before driving it across state on a multi-hundred miles journey? is the engine the weak point, or is the tip the weak point?

thanks

ps. anyone know of any dark exterior/tan interior car for sale ? (maybe dark blue or green, or silver, or white exterior)
.................
this just popped up on the 993 forum - rennlister looking for interest-price seems very reasonable/as does mileage & its a tip (no affiliation)

Hello Everyone,

I’m gauging interest in my 1996 993 TIPTRONIC Coupe. It is Black/Black with 52k miles. The car has 17” cup wheels w/ painted caps, Hi-Fi sound, ABD and CD Changer. I am considering selling it to switch to a Cayenne S.

I’ve owned it for a bit over a year. The car was previously owned by its 1st owner until being sold at auction in late 2008. I bought it from the dealer who purchased it at auction. I’ve done the necessary maintenance since I’ve owned, but do not have records from the PO.

I won’t go into too many details since this is only a feeler, so let me know if you are interested and I’ll be happy to provide more details.

I’m looking to sell in the low $20k range.

i believe yesterday was the first time i washed this car in 5 months/2500 miles ! i didnt even realize it's never been washed in my ownership. been raining/snowing a lot. but wow, a clean car, clean paint, is sooooo different. really shines. even my wife said she thought others porsches were shiny, this one was dull. but not anymore !!

car runs great. the Tip took very little getting used to, it's easy. and it's a different car from a iron-fist 911, this is the velvet glove driver version

paint is glossy and beautiful, but many chips, scratches, bald spots and small dents. i've done a hachet job with touch up brush from paintscratch.com, no clear coat yet. oak green really stands out when it's clean, it's just dull when it's dirty. i mean it's not one of those colors that can wear a bit of grime and still look okay.

car occasionally needs gas pedal assist to start when hot. in hot traffic, the fan shroud or the spoiler/decklid touches and rattles a bit, so some more clearance required i think. is that normal, easy fix ? now that i got functioning 6x9 speakers in the back, this will be a sweet tunes long-distance cruiser. need to fix that front frown

cracked clear coat

dead paint, now looking worse with hachet touch up. was going to razor and wet sand this and then attempt clear coat
