Bumping an old thread instead of making a new one.
I have recently bought my third 964, however in between I've owned some high power cars and I'm looking to get something a bit more exciting out of this 911.
I've been looking at TPC superchargers and reading about 3.8L engine upgrades, I like the idea of the TPC blower as I could install it myself where as the 3.8 upgrade internal engine work is beyond my skill level.
I'd like to start making my car light and capable and I just don't see many options for getting the power out of the engine.
Any ideas?

I bumped it instead of starting a new thread. I did get to read your post before you removed it.
Can you tell me more about the 3.8 conversion? I like the idea of lightening the rear wing, but I was thinking I would remove the raising/lowering mechanical parts.

Great thread, let's keep this going.
I've completed a modified airbox, primary delete and coilovers, and I'm very happy with the direction of the car so far. I'd really like to get myself a Steve Wong chip, and maybe a cat by-pass, but I have some other maintenance related stuff I have to take care of, first.

That with a good exhaust and maybe a lightweight flywheel looks promising

Best bang for buck? Excuses if these have been mentioned before, 1. Driver ed. 2. Removing the return spring off the throttle body. 3. Lose weight. 4. Closer pedals. 5. Aggressive geo.

the wing is an entire fiberglass piece...(mark shaw I think) and is MUCH lighter than the steel hood

I guess it really depends on what is still original on the car. I'd say 20 year old suspension needs to be refreshed for sure. After that, depending on documentation (when you can PROVE something was last replaced) I'd say motor mounts and plug wires. Basically unless you are dealing with a well maintained/documented stock car I'd forgo modifications entirely and focus on refreshing. Once that is done I'd say the best bang for the buck mods fall into 2 camps; performance or comfort improvements. Which is more important to you? Examples would be exhaust (primary and/or cat bypass) and maybe a chip for performance. For comfort a good stereo upgrade (stock sound blows chunks) might make sense.

To me the two options really look like the 3.8 conversion or supercharger and if I had to guess the blower gets more results for less money. When I supercharged my Elise a couple years ago it was awesome and I'd like to do that again here.

well if those are your thoughts yes to the supercharger.....the 3.8 conversion is a HUGE pile of money for what you get....(after all if I were to do a re-build I would replace the P/C set with Mahle and I know that set is around 5k by itself) ...I do have a bunch of power....totally surprises people who drive built camaros and other things....but I am still wanting MORE....I am seriously thinking a total tear down to build into a low compression 3.8 for a twin turbo set up....and believe me....thats going to be a seriously bank draining wallet killer of a project.....a super charger will do what you want for a LOT less money....the total project would most likely cost less than a 3.8 conversion by a long shot
