Default New 964 owner with a few ???s

Hi, I'm a long time Porsche and vintage car nut and I just bought a beautiful 1991 C4 from the 2nd owner, 59K miles, cant wait to spend some time with it. I've owned a 993, early Carrera, and a bunch of 356s. The 964s have the best of the classic 911 lines with all the benefits (or so it seems at this point) of a modern running gear. One question I have up front is regarding the steering wheel. I'm not crazy about the stock air bag wheel, is there a factory three spoke air bag option or retrofit? Ive seen the FVD wheels, but would prefer to stay with a simple black leather Porsche factory three spoke. Any ideas?? Thanks, Mark-Seattle

The bra is from the previous owner, anybody want it?

That is a very nice car Mark, and the condition looks immaculate like new.

Yes, you can replace the steering wheel for a non-airbag 3 spoke Porsche RS steering wheel, which a lot of people opt for a spec. Let me know if your interested in one, as they stock them here in the United Kingdom at a Porsche Specialist near me.

You have PM

Thanks Norm, I'm familiar with the RS wheel but would like to find a slim profile three spoke wheel with an airbag as I plan on using the C4 as a daily driver.

I've seen this car on Ebay recently, congrats on the purchase! The only 3-spoke factory Porsche wheel you can get on a 964 is the Momo Mod .07 but with a Porsche logo on the 3'oclock arm (the RS version). With this option you lose the airbag. The other option is the Atiwe wheel that FVD sells and you will retain the airbag. You can't fit a 996 3-spoke wheel on a 964, since there is not enough thread on the steering column bolt that connects to the wheel. Personally, I like the Atiwe wheels quite a bit. Best of luck!

You can fit a 996 wheel, You need the following

have the list of items needed to perform this swap. Will post part numbers if anyone is interested

Three spoke wheel 996 with airbag
Upper and lower steering column switch covers from a 993 (96 and up)
Airbag and horn contact assembly (clock spring) from a 993 or 996
Steering column shaft from 993

I just purchased a FVD airbag wheel, It looks close to stock and was alot easier than changing out the steering shaft.
