Coil / 2nd distributor belt question
I drove the car today for the first time in over a month, (workman blocking our drive for over a month laying a new gas pipe didnt help!) and altho she was good as gold, she felt a little lumpy.
I got her back on the drive, and checked everything, and all was fine until I checked the coils. The 2nd distributer Dosen't appear to be firing the car. It will start on the 1st, if I pull a the coil lead, but not the 2nd.
(By 2nd I mean the lower one).
I Pulled both caps and checked caps and rotar arms, all seems ok, and when I pulled the 2nd one, I checked the belt (which is in good condition and still intact.)
Could it be where it is damp and not been used??? (Lots of rain here - alltho I do have a waterproof cover over her when Im not using her)
Im thinking of changing both the coils???
Any advice would be great.
I hope it makes sense how I have explained it.
Thanks
If the belt is fine, then the coil seems the most likely suspect. Where in Hampshire are you? I'm on the Surrey / Hampshire / Berks border and I've got some spare coils somewhere. If you're anywhere close you're welcome to do a quick swap and see if that cures the problem - it would prove whether it was the coil or something else.
Dave, thanks for the offer for a quick swap to test the coils. I live down by the Hampshire/West Sussex border.
I went out this morning to try what Indycam has suggested, and its all back to working as it was now!
Works fine on both distributors and drove fine.
Im still thinking coils, as going back through the receipts, it had the leads replaced in 2005, spark plugs at the last service, but I have no receipts to say the coils have ever been changed from new (its a 1993).
