Brad Penn is what the real kendall gt 1 was .
A big oil company , ConocoPhillips , bought the name and sells their oil under the kendall gt 1 name because kendall gt 1 was the good stuff .

"Instead of getting 100 passes on a set of bearings with significant wear, with “THE GREEN OIL®”, the bearings saw over 200 passes and still looked new. This not only saved me time and money by protecting my motors which increased engine life, it also reduced many of my maintenance costs."

"With Penn Grade 1® Racing Oils, we have had extremely better looking bearings and our solid lifter cam motors showed a significant decrease in wear. It gave us a better initial break -in of the cam and lifters, something that is very important in today’s high valve spring pressure, solid lifter camshaft engines."

"There are over 101 ways to ruin a camshaft lifter combination and we recommend Penn Grade 1® Racing Oils because of its unique formulation and outstanding protection to all our engine building customers nationwide. These outstanding products serve as an extra insurance policy for proper and adequate lubrication."

"We switched our oil brand from the brand we were using for five years to using Penn Grade 1® “THE GREEN OIL®”. We changed immediately when my builder, Olney Race Engines, was tearing down an engine and noticed that the bearing surfaces were in excellent conditions after a race, almost like brand new. We were previously using full synthetic oils since 1999 and we believe that Brad Penn exceeds any performance value of those products."

My car has had Mobil 1 20w/50 since its initial oil was added in 92'. No issue's. Just recently had gaskets replaced, but switching oils I really don't think would have helped. It is in the owners manual as recommended oil so that is what i'll continue with.
I don't see the need to change oil brands for me.

Hmmmm....
re evolving needs in motor oils: sometimes previously sound foundations of thought are undercut by very real changes of circumstance.
I tossed off my old Mobil 1 prejudice a while back when a few too many folk began pointing under my (Mobil 1) house.
Figured it was time to move as my perspective on the seriousness of potential trouble wasn't all that great.
(OTOH... "Be chary with advice: Wise men don't need it, and fools won't heed it.")

I like those are they meant to be real? they all read like bad 80's commercials? Johnny hot rods in Arizona recommends brad Penn for all you engine needs must just be me.
Some will stick with the anecdotal, some will stick with the vehicle and oil manufacturers

Preferring the opinions of reps from competing oil firms seems daft to me, and a true cynic would point out that Porsche isn't standing behind these motors anymore, their primary source of income on a 964 is parts. Stuff like (cough) camshafts etc.
As has been said many times already, to each their own, but I'll take real-word experience from builders like Jeff Gamroth and Steve Weiner thanks.
Now, back to the original subject of this thread which was somehow lost 4 pages ago, I'll have to watch what my consumption looks like, but I have seen fewer leaks.

Rather than rehash what's already been stated - I recommend everyone still confused by all this to view this thread, where you will read direct feedback from some of the most respected 911 motor builders around.

Back in the early 70's I bought a used 1962 Corvette 327 ci engine. Prior to install I rebuilt it and while cleaning the block I found heavy deposits of a gray clay like substance in the lifter valley that took alot of work with a stiff parts cleaning brush to remove. Even today I think about it and wonder what it was and assumed it had something to do with the oil. Now I am thinking it was zinc.
As far as Mobil 1. I have 175 k on my 95 Saab 9000 turbo and the oil level never leaves the full mark in between the 4 k mile changes with Mobil 1. I have been using Castrol GTX in my 964 but after reading the above I will probaby go with Brad Penn. Thanks for listening.
