I think they would look a bit better if mounted the way Porsche did on the 934s and 935s back in the day.
Mount them directly to the door and skip using the lower flag mounts.
That would be more work having to weld up the door skins and repaint, but if your going to do it do it right. IMHO

mirrors haven't fallen-off yet?!
Well after hundreds of miles of spirited driving this weekend, I'm proud to report that my mirrors didn't fall off... I attended a local cars and coffee on Saturday, and drove with the turbo hooligans celebrating OctTUBROfest on Sunday. I got lots of great feedback, which basically boiled down to... it looks really good on your car. Thanks everyone. I wanted it to be a unique "retro" inspired modification, that's functional but pays homage to Porsche Motorsport in a very subtle way.
I've enjoyed reading everyone's reaction. Great feedback, thanks. I love seeing the "correct" standard mods as much as any Porschephile, but extra thanks to those that appreiate the nod to P. Motorsports in this application!
I wanted this to be low dollar mod and easily reversible. So no filling-in the doors and the mirror bases had to stay. Note that there really wasn't a consistent mounting method in the motorsport cars. Most were mounted directly to the doors (without bases), but in doing photo research I saw all kinds of mounting methods? I prefer using the flag base as the curve of the door makes the mirrors look like they are going to fall off as they hang on the side... the flat bottom of the mirror sits level to the ground.
I've added more pictures to my Sebring Mach 1 folder, so check it out for install ideas and the many other inspirational photos that gave me this idea.

Guys,
Thanks for all the new "nickname" ideas: Hippo, Mickey, Shrek, et al...
You can keep your government approved, monster mirrors... the 997 MKII guys know what I mean?
I love all the "standard" 964 bits... and I'll make sure to keep them in a box for the next owner (either my six yr. old son or 3 yr. old daughter =;>).
I've been blown away by the response I gotten from various forums, can't wait to see if the idea pops up on other cars? I'll be flattered...

Thanks for the installation help. A pair I ordered came in today and will be one of my projects tomorrow. While I like the look of the tear drop mirrors, I prefer these. To me mirrors are a functional item rather than a design feature and I like the way these kind of disappear and let the eyes focus on the car.
Cheers,

Cosmos' mirror mod on an Aero mirror base. Looks great!
The subtle mods to the wheels, headlight rings, and mirrors work really well with the factory trim, bumpettes, and black lower side sils. Nice touches.
I know people like areo mirrors (and they do look great), but I love the size of these mirrors.
Small and racy, as seen on so many iconic factory racing Porsches in the 70's.

Wow! Those look sharp with the Aero base.
I decided to put the Aeros on mine yesterday and now I have another issue of really bad marks left from the Flag base on the paint. Looks like they we're put on while the paint was still wet. Passenger side looks worse than the driver's side. I tell ya...it's never ending.

I've always liked those mirrors...I had one on a Fiat 124 Twin Cam Coupe in the late 60's, then one on an Alfa Romeo 1750 Spider in the early 70's.
