Those are the plates for the brake fluid and headlight washer fluid. Pretty cool!

Correct. Weight savings must be minimal as the original parts are plastic and not that heavy... but leave no rock unturned, right!? Outstanding!

Doesn't that change the function of the cover? It exists to prevent items in the trunk from chafing or ruining the brake reservior.

The car shouldn't HAVE anything in the trunk in the first place.
