Default Got some noise.. fan bearing??

sounds like whirrring metal, changes with engine revs.

scale of 1 to 10 how tough a job and what kind of tools. Should my moderate skills attempt this DIY?
thanks.

Sounds like a fan bearing to me. I had to change mine recently. The job is not hard but very tedious, depending on if the fan slides off the alternator shaft or not. In my case, it didn't. I had to remove the alternator from the car and use a 3 arm puller to remove it. Then I used a press to push the bearing off the fan.

You may want to plan on changing the 3 v-belts while you have them off. I also chose to have my fan powder coated for extra prettiness.

Special Tools needed
* 1/4" metric socket set
* Fan shaft tool from factory tool kit
* 24 mm wrench to remove nut on alternator pulley
* 3 arm gear puller (I've heard bad stories of fans breaking with the 2 arm pullers)
* Small press to remove and install the bearing in the fan

I had this at one point but my car is a turbo. Do the normally aspirated cars have the belt tensioner roller??? If so, thats what my problem was, you may want to check that. 10 minute fix and about 200 dollars.
