Or, at least a straight 8. Tres cool, regardless.

Any way you cut it, "ask the man who owns one."
1933 Packard Super 8 Model 1003 135" wheelbase 385 cu in., 4985 lbs.
one of 512 model 1003's produced, 13 or so remaining (although one just surfaced on Craigslist in OR...). Long stroke straight eight engine with tons of low end torque. Shows 28,000 miles, but is a bit more worn than that. Probably was repainted back in the 50's. Original interior. Bijur automatic chassis lubrication (continuous drips of lube to chassis controlled by engine vacuum, adjustable power assisted brakes, dashboard adjustable ride control shock damping (control **** originally labeled "Push In - Hard Pull Out - Soft but changed mid production), dual point/twin coil ignition, dash fluid level gauge switches between fuel and oil levels, big enough back seat for ALL KINDS of fun activities, ....
The engine pic doesn't do it justice - it is one massive hunk. The frame, axles, etc. look like they belong on a tri-axle dump truck.
1933 was the lowest production year of all for Packard. Just like my 1993 Porsche, lowest production year for all 911's after the first couple years.
Fun car. I probably will not restore it completely, I like keeping it as original as possible.
Note the pics showing similarities in my driving styles.

That rear seat is pure class - it looks like a sofa!

LouZ congratulations, hope you and your family have a great day!! Love weddings.
And the packard, nice car but I think it is missing something up front with a back seat like that... perhaps a big screen tv !! wow what a sofa, love it.

Thinking about doing a local drive with the PCA club tomorrow athough the weather I think is going to cancel that. Rain turning to snow does not make an enjoyable drive. Maybe I have to settle looking on the net for one last drive before the season says to close the car up. This has been what seems to be a very short summer and not a great fall. Will have to wait to see what the following weeks bring other than depression.

Default PCA Fun

The PCA Escape to the Birthplace of Aviation kicked off yesterday. I was able to get the day off from work so my 3 year old and I took a covered bridge tour. I met lots of nice folks along the way.

Tonight is the dinner at the Packard Museum (speaking of Packards). Saturday afternoon is the cruise-in at Quaker Steak and Lube (should make for a nice photo op). Saturday night is the Taj Ma Garaj (looking forward to seeing John Dixon's collection). Sunday is the Shine an Show (should also make for a nice photo op).

In the mean time here are a couple pics from yesterday.

I have a well planned Porsche weekend scheduled;
1. 10/03/09 - Cars and Coffee, in Irvine, CA. (7:00am)
2. 10/03/09 - PCA breakfast with OCR Region in Anaheim, CA. (8:30am)
3. 10/03/09 - Classic Car Show, in Inglewood, CA. (12:00 noon)
4. 10/04 - 10/05/09 - Willow Springs Raceway, with PCA Zone 8, GPX Region.

I'm looking forward to the start of the weekend, like a kid going to Disneyland.

Default FRENZY

Well tomorrow, I am going to a Porsche 928 gathering near Dulles Airport (local for me) that I signed up for and paid 2 months ago...even though I TRADED my beloved 928 S4, AT, Indischrot Red, for my 1991 964 C2, 5 speed, Black on black, that is for the track mostly....cannot wait to see the looks from the 928 crew when I pull up in my C2 !!! " Why would you want an oil suckin', *** draggin' VW when you had the 'Best GT Porsche ever made' ??" At least, during the Fun Run, I will try to either totally be out front or probably bring up the rear. Should be fun..tech sessions during the day and later dinner. If you don't hear from me for awhile then.....just kidding...Kevin.....................
