I think California is worse than Seattle. They have such things like:

Personal income tax @ 10.5%
Corporate tax @ aprox 5%
Property tax
Sales tax???

Still no state income tax here, one of the last holdouts - for the time being...
But the sales tax is pushing 10%

My prop. assessment actually went down 4% this time, as did that of many folks I know. Small bit of consolation.

I challenged the county's assessed value of the home and saved $3000 on property taxes.

Washington State property taxes suck. They've built a big and expensice infastructutre in an attempt to determine the current value and tax accordingly/annually.

Why should they be entitled to anything beyond the initial purchase price?

Now I'm in a crappy mood - again!

Groovzilla, That's a lot of property tax you pay in Washington State. Thankfully you don't have to pay State Income tax. You do get to write the property tax off of your federal return, but I guess we here in Cali get to write our state income tax off too, so I'd bet we're in the same boat, total dollar for dollar.

Damn, now I'm in a bad mood too

I feel all rennlisters deserve a bailout.....Someone....call the President

He and Michelle are too busy flying the four big jets to Copenhagen. Seems he needs to pay back some of his old Chicago cronies who are slum lords and can make a fortune wiping out blighted areas with Olympics construction.

I'm thinking he's not too worried about he $27.9K taxes I owe that the county assessed me AFTER I sold the property. Claimed they mistakenly failed to include the improvements for three years. Silly me, I thought when the taxes tripled at the completion of construction, they had picked it up.

You didn't get me in a bad mood. I've been in one for the past 16 months.
