Default From GT3RS to RS America

I have had a '04 GT3 until last spring, then moved to an'07 GT3RS. Awesome cars both, but not what I was looking for. Looking for more character to my ride. Found a 1993 RS America in Sacramento via rsamerica.net. Car had been well maintained with recent full engine rebuild to high standard. Car is making 300 hp at the crank. Drove car 1,900 miles back to Dallas with no issues.
Have been in process of preparing the car for track and some street use. I removed the sun roof to give me more vertical height, installed GT3 seats from my RS with Brey Krause seat mounts. RUF Auto Centre has installed a FVD exhaust (incredible improvement), Ruf auxiliary oil cooler, strut brace and DAS roll bar. Next move is to take the car to Buckley Racing for Motons, Guard LSD, new anti-roll bars and springs.
Targeting October Maverick PCA DE for first outing of my new ride.

Hi Doug,

Just went from a 993 to a track prepared 964. The current exhaust is the stock cat, and bypass pipes for the rest. I do plan to drive it on the street from time-to-time so I need to tone it down a bit. Please tell be about the FVD exhaust. Thanks.

Awesome! I looked really hard at that car before I bought mine. I think its the perfect look and would have bought it had I not found one here in New England.

Can you list the engine improvements for those of us getting ready for a refresh?

Wow, I am shocked the old RSA won out over the new GT3 ! And think of all the money you saved on insurance and payments! well I guess that depends on how hog wild you go on the RSA track preparation !

Here is information on Engine Rebuild:
o Engine rebuild at 73,000 miles in 7/08
• New rings/bearings
• ARP headstuds and rod bolts
• Nology wires
• Terry Hunt heads with New valves and springs, retainers
• Mild Webb cams
• RS lightweight flywheel
• Fan and heads painted in 997 GT3 RS orange
• Autothority modified by Steve Wong of 911 Chips with RS anti-stall software
• On Swepco since rebuild

Information on Exhaust: Former owner had installed a 993 exhaust on the car removing rear mufflers and adding a FVD cutout trim piece to allow for additional exhaust pipe at the rear. 993 Exahaust manifold also had to be reversed on one side to fit a 964. Exhaust was very loud and had a great deal of resonance. FVD Exhaust maintains the heat exchangers, has racing cats and can be ordered in a range of sound level settings. All resonance is gone and with the equal length headers, the exhaust note connects better with the rhythm of the engine. The 993 exhaust with its unequal lengths ended up mixing the exhaust from each cylinder resulting in a loud drone that was just obnoxious.

Unfortunately the insurance is actually more for a 964 than a GT3. Apparently you are at a higher risk of being injured in a 964 rather than a GT3. Gotta love insurance agents...

Can you expand on the differences and your preferance of a 964RS over the GT3s?

Insurance was more? Did you try collector insurance? I only pay like 500 per year.

Hi Doug,

Congrats! - That used to be my car before I sold it to Stan in Sacramento. What a surprise to see it show up in your avatar. I don't often check rennlist or the 964 section that often, but I logged on and checked today and couldn't believe to see my old car. I loved that RS America... I'm glad it's going to an true enthusiast! That FVD cutout for the dual exhaust was there when the car used to have a B&B exhaust. I put those Fikse wheels on... get some semichrome metal polish to help keep them clean (those wheels are a real pain to keep clean). I agree with you on the character thing- that car has boatloads of character- way more than my wife's 996TT for sure!

Congrats again!
Kenny

This is interesting. I've read this before from an RSA owner who sold his RSA for a GT3, only to regret selling his RSA?
