Not just by replacing it with a new OEM unit, but actually doing something to improve smoothness/responsiveness or by reprogramming it. I've just changed the transmission fluid, and this made minimal difference.
Any idea?
Car's running nicely at the moment, and the jerkiness of the tip is kinda spoiling the ride. One example - when I'm in manual shift mode, I slip it into 2, and there's immediate take up. But 1 second later, there's a 2nd stage, esp under hard acceleration. I'm assuming it to be the lock-up clutch being worn, but am not an expert on tips.
Was the racing 964 tip that Walther Rohrl drove in the early '90s modified?
There is a german chap by the name of Hacki who posts on the Porsche club gb forum in the 964RS section who now owns the tip cup car . You might want want to post on there for more info about that.

Thanks for the lead.
Does anyone know if Robert Linton upgraded the tip on his car? Robert?
It is not hard to change. You will need a new screen and get your car up in the air so you can drain the pan and then drop it. Measure how much fliud comes out, add that much new , drive it and then check for proper level. Add as required.

What you feel is the torque converter locking up, it's an improvement that Porsche did for the 993. I think the 964 tiptronic had too but under different circumstances.

Sounds like a software issue. Has anyone re-mapped their transmission?
