Rear seat "delete"
I 've lately seen a few cars show up for sale with their rear seats removed and a shelf-like storage system added. They have a couple of cargo bars for the shelf (which are useless in some of them with speakers installed in the load space), and are covered in matching carpet. They also have a a couple of bin doors in the front-facing panel. I've tried searching with no luck. Are these easy to remove to put the car back to OEM? Would there be a market to recoup cost by selling these?
The rear seat delete is OEM. It's used on some cabs, the 1993 RS America, and the Carrera Cup USA.

Replacing the rear seat delete with rear seats i difficult since the chassis wasn't fitted at the factory with the hardware to attach seats and seat belts.

That's not true. My cab has all the holes, they are just covered in carpet. i've installed the belts, but not the seats themselves as I have a carseat in there. I'm sure they built the same tubs, just didn't install the hardware. To the OP- it's easy to remove the rear seat delete option. There's a few bolts you take out; should be a 15 minute job to do so. Selling the luggage dump, as I've heard it called, is fetching around $750 if it's in good shape.
Wow, the ones I've seen certainly look OEM. I didn't recall this option (just forgot over the years), lol. I would have guessed that the mounting holes for belts/seats s/b there (I found my car seats fit better in my 996 by pulling the seat pads out, but now that the kids are 2, some p-car friends gave us OEM car seats so fit will not be a problem :-)). Thanks for the link and info. If I find a car that is a good deal, perhaps I will still consider it with the option, and then do the conversion. While I wouldn't think the bin would be worth that much, I guess it would be worth more than enough to cover the cost of the hardware needed.
Thanks!
Thanks!
Bill, I actually don't have any of the seat components installed. I've heard too that people can be more comfortable without the seat backs as it's a more natural position. This made with a coupe in mind though because the rear shelf area is carpeted. As for the cab and car seat thing, if I had to guess, the sear back might cause the car seat to tip forward a bit too much.
