Default another clutch issue

Despite using the hand brake, I managed to smoke the clutch for a second or two while backing out of a steep driveway. Since then there is sometimes a subtle grinding sound when I upshift between 1st and 2nd or 2nd and 3rd. What should I do? Thanks in advance.

How old is your clutch? Could it be coincidence that it wore out when this happened? Are you sure that the grinding noise is caused by the clutch as opposed to the brakes?

Rob - Thanks for your reply. I've own an '89 C4 coupe (also guards red) for 3 months. It has 95k miles and the service records show no indication of clutch work. There is no noise coming from the brakes when I operate them.
