Another brake question
1992 Porsche 964 Turbo look 3.3L
I have been searching and reading for some two weeks now and still don't have the answer i am looking for. I presume it was out there somewhere. Anywhere I would very much appreciate all you expertise and advise to what i am looking for.
My Front right disc (rotor) has wear unevenly. Thickness of the disc is 28.38mm. The disc diameter is 322mm. Looking at the disc, the out side half of the disc wear more than the inside half. I read from Porsche manual, the diameter of the disc is 298mm. The number at the back of the brake pad is 993.351.930.01
Now I am really confused. A 1992 Porsche 964 Turbo look 3.3L with 993 brake pad. I also would like to upgrade the brake line to stainless steel line.
Appreciate your explanation.
Thank you.

While I can't comment on this model specifially, it's pretty rare, unless you've owned the car from Day One - ANYTHING is possible. The previous owner may very well have upgraded to the 993 calipers. But maybe it was spec'd with this caliper, often short run 911's didn't come with manuals that were entirely correct for that spec)
As for wear - make sure the stainless steel backing pads (the ones IN the calipers) are not binding the pads, holding them on the rotor. If there is corrosion on the calipers, behind the SS backing pads - the pads will bind.
A search of this forum will get you lots of information about brake line upgrades.

According to Bill Verburg's handy reference page, the 964 TL used the "S4" caliper and 322mm rotors. The S4 brakes are sometimes called "Big Black" calipers and similar to the "Big Reds" used on the 993TT.

The S4 caliper was also a stock part on the 993 C2/C4, so using a 993 pad should not be a problem unless it's too short. In the S4 caliper you can use either the 132mm x 58mm brake pad with the 322mm rotor or 132mm x 48mm pad with the 304mm 993 C2/C4 rotor.
I could not find the part # you referenced in the Porsche parts catalog nor confirm whether it is the right size, so you may want to measure the height to ensure you are using the correct part.

the front rotors on the air cooled versions of these cars are 322x32 new, the O/P's are worn out and need replacement, it sound like he has frozen pistons. Note 964 versions on these 322x32mm rotors are not interchangeable w/ 993RS/tt versions
the above calipers do use the same 322x32mm rotors as the Big Reds but the Big Red pad is slightly larger @ 132x58mm. The 964 3.6t used the Big Red calipers and a Black version was used on 928GTS
