Anyway, everything has a price. $13.5K honest for this car? Probably. I had similar when I wanted to move RSA #2 along because a race car popped up. At under $22K I still got all manner of grief for lack of records. The car was/is a good candidate for a track car, or a driver. Nothing more, nothing less. But there were those who still lusted after records on a 130+K car that is due for a full mechanical freshening if it's going to be put to hard use.

I am not much of a stickler for records as long as the seller does not mind a pretty invasive PPI... a look at the compression/leakdown, cam journals and the bottom of the car with all the trays missing is enough to make a good guess at what kind of trouble you might be getting yourself into. I'm no expert - but if its rust and body damage free... and it runs, there isn;t much that can put you over 20k from 13k that you can't see coming with the valve covers off.

"FIRM" prices seldom are when presented with cash in hand.

Who would have the last laugh if, even though the owner is a douche, the car actually turned out to be decent? Especially if it passes a PPI...
What If - the owner says, "No PPI, I don't have time, take it or leave it" - okay, I've got a paint meter, does it looks to be in good shape inside and out, does it drive out straight and strong, does everything (or pretty much everything) work, etc., etc., etc.

I know a lot of people would say "No way", but if you looked it over and it seemed okay, would you pass this up for say, 12 grand?. What the heck...
We've all seen people pay a lot more and get a lot less.

Yep, I got my "agent" (father, a fellow Porschephile) going to take a look at it for me. Perfect, because he actually lives in the same city as the guy selling. If it seems decent, we're going to go ahead and have a PPI done on it, and pending results, I may go ahead and pick it up. Anyone recommend a good PPI shop in NOVA? When I bought my current 964 I had it done in New Jersey...

NoVA has a lot of Porsche specialists. These are most of the shops that are consistently recommended on the Porsche board. I have not been to any of them, yet.

In my mind, a stack of receipts is equivalent to a stamped service book. A written record of DIY service can be OK depending on how you feel about the owner.

Thanks. I've owned my car for 3 years, and taken it to a shop exactly twice. Once for an alignment/corner balance, once for a seized brake caliper bolt (after that bill, I went ahead and bought a torch to remove my own stuck sh*t!)

Ive been suprised to be finding that
there are alot of 1990, 1991 964 c2 stock coupes for sale right now and the asking price is actually at $15k and below from private people; the cars have nice service history.

Given this, it seems the selling price is probably approx 13k for a stock car.
Therefore, no reason to deal with an idiot, but, it is possible a non-enthusiast can still have a clean, well maintained car.

Every seemingly good sub-$15K car for sale out here turns out to be a stinker. I suspect if there are good cars for sale cheap, they are sold by word-of-mouth before they ever have a chance to be advertised.

But demand always far outstrips supply out here. Not the case in all areas of the country.
