Front Door Speaker/Tweeter backing plates
I am in the process of replacing the radio, amp, speakers, and am having an issue with the existing front door speaker/tweeter backing plates being very brittle and disintigrating after 19 years of UV rays.
Has anyone purchased replacement backing plates for speaker/tweeter in the front doors? If so, where did you get them? What was the cost?

I bought new ones from Porsche. I don't remember price but it wasn't expensive. There's a part # on them. I can look for my receipt, but I'm sure I got them from Sunset.

Baltic - keen to hear how you solve this and details on your install. That's my next project. Just picked up a very flexible Alpine CDA-9835. Looking to solve amp, sub and component speakers upfront.

the component speaker crossover is hidden in a square compartment by the map pocket on the panel; at least on mine. If you pull the map pocket off, you'll see it's divided. Wires run into it, and back out to the speakers themselves.
As for Amp, I put one in the bonnet, and ran wires back to the cabin. I have not done a sub, though.

I am running a Blaupunk Brisbane SD48 (no CD receiver, just Ipod, SD, USB for memory stick input) - they call them mech'less receivers. Under the passenger seat, goes a Blaupunkt THA275pnp 2-channel amp - only one I could find to fit perfect (about 7" x 7"). I am going to power the Polk Audio db5251 Components in the doors with the amp, and run the rears (4" - Polk Audio db 401s off of the deck amp - it's a cab).
To fit the Polk Audio components, you need to do the tweeter modification (turn over tweeter bracket, and enlarge the hole slightly). The polk tweeters/cups fit nicely into the tweeter bracket, and allow you to use the hardware for the polk tweeter to secure it.
The only problem with this is that when you put the longer length screws in to attach the tweeter bracket to the door, the phillips heads on the screws (3) hit the tweeter grill cover (bottom's out) so it can not be screwed completely down to the door panel (but close).
To fit the Polk Audio 5.25" speakers, you need to enlarge the speaker mounting brackets (this is when they fall apart), and grind around the inner door speaker shield (black plastic splash shield mounted on inside of door panel) to provide clearance for the speaker.
The Polk Audio cross overs just barely fit into the original pocket in the doors.
Looks like the parts I am asking about are # 911 555 671 00 for the woofer bracket, and #911 555 673 00 for the tweeter bracket. I see one source has them for a total of $91.56 for (2) of each......Ouch!

Thanks for the BLaupunkt amp tip - been wondering what'll fit under there.
Can the Brisbane deal with FLAC or WMAL or even ALAC? Hate to loose all the advateges of the better gear with the crappy codec that MP3 is.
