DUTIES / TAXES: (FOR ARGENTINES OR PERMANENT RESIDENTS ONLY)
Approximately 79% of car CIF value,. If the car is diesel the taxes are 100 % of CIF value.
USED CARS AND MOTORCYCLES
Importation of new cars is subject to Ministry of Commerce regulations and is limited to certain types of vehicles.
* Foreign Diplomats are able to import used cars.
* Returning Argentine Citizens may import used cars only (once for each members of the couple).
* Persons with permanent resident status may import used cars.

Nobody would pay for my car 50k if they could import an used 964 from EEUU and pay only 79% more in taxes (plus shipping)

As to the point of premature valve guide wear, it's been there on 911's from Day One. But when the chain tensioner issue went away, it lay dormant until the OBD II cars and their smog checks surfaced.

Ken that is a very true statement. I had a high school buddy that worked at a print shop, an east german master mechanic came over to work on a one of the shops printing presses. The guy could never get over all these kids running around the US with hot rods. He had to wait 10 years to buy a Trabant!

Sell it cause in todays economy in South America you may never get the chance to get that much money for the car!
My advise is sell the car is keep the money in the bank, in a year you will find a hell of a deal of someone who has to sell the sports car.
Good luck!

What's worse is that I paid US$146,000 for my Audi A6 new almost 5 years ago.

Wow. For the price of your A6, I can get a 2006/07 Audi Gallardo.

Well assuming it is a ROW 993 and not a US model money is relevant to you and you have to determine if it is a good deal.
The US 993 6 speed is poorly geared and IMO quite noticeable. The earlier cars had recalls on engine wiring harness which you need to make sure has been resolved otherwise quite costly. Basically the 993 feels almost identical to a 964 except over extremely bumpy roads. So what are you gaining? You see it as a lower mileage car which may or may not be better. I just recently had a friend with a US 95 993 with only 20k miles have serious valve issues. I know this is not the norm but check the car out thoroughly and decide. IMO the 964 is a far superior looking car and I prefer the more raw classic feel.
But these are things you need to decide for yourself.

In Brunei a 964 is actually going for around $35-$45k (maybe 30-40 in USD)
964 turbo's can go up to as much as USD$55k.

I think I am not going to buy the 993 as I believe is a lot more money for a very similar car, I also like the 964 look better and have my 964 well sorted out, for me the only issue is the mileage of my car, it would be a nightmare to rebuid the engine because prices here are sky high
