Default Brake pad wear indicators

So I installed new front brakes (pads and rotors) and tried to transfer my wear indicators from the old pads to the new ones. I was not successful.

The indicator sensor thingies are pretty fragile and difficult to remove/install.

What technique/trick am I missing?

There is no trick that I have seen. Either bypass or buy new ones.
