Default Amsoil oil

Hi everyone,

One of my friend that has a Vette 64 recommended that I start using the synthetic oil from Amsoil, as anyone ever tried it?

Also while browsing their website i found out that they were recommending 5W40 oil for the Porsche 964 any comment on that?

website: http://www.amsoil.com/

Thanks,

Daniel

I believe you'll be steered clear of using that oil on this forum. I used that AFL in my VW TDI in the past...but it looks like the TBN is down from 10 to about 8 now... My memory is a little foggy on the specifics, but a higher TBN # would be better...same with the HTHS...it's below 4 on the 5/40...not good.

I think I saw at least one using the 20/50 formulation (I think the ARO) on here... The MVC 20/50 (motorcycle) has a higher HTHS than the ARO = good.

i remember years ago before i repowered my boat with a diesel engine, the original gas motor had alot of valve noise when running

some guy mentioned amsoil and i used it...worked like a charm...the motor was quiet and ran smooth for several more years.

i've never heard of using amsoil in a porsche motor but if the engine is old and making noise it would be worth a shot.

Why not just read the bloody LNEngineering article closely, pay heed to recommendations there and call it a day ?

Brad Penn 20-50 summer, 10-40 winter, done, end of story; finito, no more doubt, BP it is, numero uno. Den beste olie du kan kobe for en luftkolet Porsche.

I have been using Amsoil 20W50 with no issues. A lot of various opinions on oil on these forums.

Because everyone has their own bloody agenda on this subject, including the guy wrote that - that's why not.

If it were that simple, there wouldn't be at least one "What oil should I use?" thread per page on every page of this forum.

And while I don't use it in the Porsche application, I think Amsoil makes great products and I use them in other vehicles.
