Good day!

Today I opened the sunroof on my '90 C2 and the inside panel fabric have become lose and wouldn't follow the sunroof back. Up until I realize it, I ended-up with a bunch of fabric stuck at the edge where the car roof ends and where the sunroof goes away (following me?).

Now I search the site and found a couple of topics on how to remove the top, but my problem is with the inside portion. Do I assume right, that I somehow need to remove the inside panel and restitch the fabric?

Any guidance on how to achieve that would be appreciated.

There are about seven "snap" fittings on the leading edge of the fabric panel (front of car edge).

With the sunroof partially open you can pop these open and slide the cloth panel piece out. With the fabric bunched up you're going to have a bit of a time getting it free. Mine ended up tearing after someone did a poor installation and I've yet to find replacement fabric :-(

Mine is open at the moment so if you need pics let me know and I'll take them and post them along.

ok, once I un-snap the 7 fittings, how do I slide the panel out? through the hole of the sunroof or through the zipper at the back?

well, it looks like it won't come out, I might have to pull the air deflector or something... argn... How do I remove the air deflector to slide the inside cover out as it seems to be in a rail.

I had to bow my inside panel ever so gently to get it to come out of the guides. Although in hindsight that may not have been the best option but it worked for me.

well, you pry it on the inside? Wow, I wonder if there's another to pull it out.

Phoenix, the other thread you posted in suggests that the cloth liner piece does not come out first. But, rather, unsnaps and then slides back into the roof. I think that's how it reads.

Now that I think about that seems like it could be the correct approach. I know that I pulled mine out before removing the roof panel and it was not fun. I'll bet that I did it wrong!

I have the shop manuals and will take a look to see if they have any more info. If so, I'll post back here.

Well, if I slide it back, I won't be able to access it. After pulling the 7 tabs, I ended-up being able to remove the clothing from the front, but now I'm stuck with a nice piece of clothing and a liner that I can't remove to re-glue the clothing on it :-)

It seems that the line slides easily, but I might have to remove the wind deflector to get it out, but I would just like to confirm that theory before I disassemble the wind deflector and find out that it's not the way to go.

I've had the wind deflector off. It's just a couple of screws. Shouldn't be a bit deal even if it doesn't help.

Wind deflector is a simple removal. I always thought that you removed the inner liner through the zipper section of the headliner, but I may be mistaken. If you've got it all the way to the wind deflector, it is only a couple of screws. Run a search on the removal, it takes about 5 minutes to remove the deflector.

Here's where I'm at:

1- It's definitely NOT coming off the back zipper, there's no connection between the 2.
2- I removed the wind deflector and was almost able to pull it out, but something kept being stuck on the passenger side and I just couldn't get it out all the way (3/4). I wonder if it can be related to this pin?



Is it possible that I need to unlock it before I pull the panel out?

I'm not desperate yet, but I'm amazed that no one has ever done this yet (given that I have a 20 years old car!)...

That pin you've circled can definitely be released. The arm/spring you've circled swings inward toward the center of the car and can then swing back "above" the pin.

As for having done it, I have done this a couple of times, but not recently enough to recall the exact steps that I followed. And, mine was torn and "caught up" so it was a bit of a bear to work through. I think that you are following the right approach, but it is a bit fiddly.
