There was just a group buy in the 993 forum....$105 delivered IIRC.
I received mine and put it on the wife's 993 Targa, excellent quality.

I'll skip the part about the hour from hell trying to get the gasket to fit

You can also buy them from Rennlist sponsor Eric at www.bumperplugs.com.

Looks good, but can I ask why silver versus the gold? Did some special edition cars come with silver?

I put a silver on my old C4 and it looked great. use a hairdryer to stretch and manipulate the rubber gasket.

Trick: Attach pieces of blue painter's tape to the underside of the gasket.
Then use these tape strips (after pressing the shield down onto the gasket & hood) to pull out the gasket edges.

Experiment with tape attach area amounts to get enough pull strength (to stretch the gasket outwards), but little enough so that it slowly releases its grip from the gasket under continued shearing pull load.

I found it a very satisfying trial & error solution to something I otherwise found quite frustrating.

AFAIK, no, there was never a production silver Porsche hood crest.

On certain color cars (personal preference of course), silver just looks better than the gold.
The same could be said for clear side markers vs yellow/amber side markers.

My Lapis Blue 996TT has a silver hood crest and my wife's 993 Targa (Exclusive programme paint to sample DiamondBlau metallic) both have silver hood crests, just seems look better IMHO.

I tried the painter's tape and the blow dryer (use of a torch was next), but finally ended up just reusing the original gasket (was in excellent shape)...even then it was a bit of a challenge.

BTW, if you are an eBay person, silver hood crests do often time show up there...

Remembering how much force was required to manipulate mine, I can't imagine how this would work. Must be bloody strong tape and Lonnie, you must have far more tensile strength in your fingers than me!

So whats the deal ? The silver crests were not made bo Porsche??

My 2003 Boxster S had a silver crest on it when I purchased it.

I see them on ebay with a 996 part number.

Seems to me like Porsche does make them.

The silver crest I have is identical to the new gold crests. Same manufacturer. I believe you could order them as an option and have seen them in the techquipment brochures. IIRC their all made in China now and are no longer the stampings they were as used on our vintage cars.

I think the silver works great on some cars like my cobalt blue but not on all.
