Question for those with 993 knuckles
Anyone that has converted to 993 knuckles, what tie-rods are you using? I have 993 knuckles, control arms, ball joints, and stock 993 tie-rods. With the tie rods adjusted as far as I can inwards, both front wheels are toed in so far the car is undrivable. I thought the 993 tie rod assemblies were the way to go. Any one been there before?

Have both inner and outer, and installed tie rod from the top. It doesn't seem to fit from the bottom, and every picture I have been able to find of a non-gt2 knuckle it goes in from the top.

It looks like the mounting points where the control arm mounts to the body are wider on a 993 than the 964. The complete tie rod length overall is comparable to the complete 964 tie rod, so that's the only thing I can come up with, as the control arms are dimensionally the same, and the struts are also, with the exception of the knuckle mounting holes. I am going to have the outer tie rods threaded futher up the shafts and trimmed at a machine shop next week. I just have to figure out how much shorter they need to be.

Something fishey here as n/b 964 users have swapped to 993RS uprights w/o this sort of issue, swapping to 993 shouldn't present additional issues.
does a 964 C4 use the outers?

Not the upper mounting point for the struts, but the side members on the body for the two inner control arm mounts. The upper mounts for the struts are set up for the narrow body. I wish I knew what the issue was, but I can't for the life of me figure out what the difference is. I didn't take control arms off, so nothing changed there. The struts have been changed, but they are back in the same orientation. I've seen many swaps to the rs uprights, that's why I undertook this. I was really hoping that it would just bolt together.

Yes, I was referring to the side member mounts.
Geoffrey has posted pics in the past where you can see the outer and inner sidemember mounts on his car. It started life as a n/b and he converted it to w/b.
Search his racecar build threads for pics.

I know there have been different subframe side members produced for the different models which changed the location of the inner pivot point of the lower control arm. Unfortunately, I don't remember the details.

I looked up both 964 and 993 chassis specs, the front mounting points are identical@ 670mm from outer sidemount hole to outer sidemount hole
there are sets of 3 holes on each side of both, for 2 positions, inner or outer
there were 2 different, sidemounts used through '92 and '93 up
the manuals note only minor differences between 964 and 993 arms, sidemounts
the 964 steering arms were 3 pieces/side. You replaced all 3 parts? w/ the 2 part 993 arms?

Yep, 993 inner and outer tie rod. Everything involved, the knuckles, hubs, struts, control arms, ball joints and tie rods are all narrow body 993. My car is a 91, so I don't know if that is the difference. I can't see that mine would be in the widebody holes unless it started life that way. I would love it if I could move the control arm sidemembers to another mount, and not have to trim the tie-rods. Just let me know if you want measurements of anything. I am puzzled as to where or what the difference is.

Have the correct bolts for the uprights, and modified the 964 front axles to work with the 993 knuckles. I just wish I could figure out where the difference is that makes the tie rods unusable without modification.

Bill, do you know what the length of the compete rs tie rod assemblies is? I am still trying to figure the difference before I modify the tie rods.
