Default replacing only one rear tire ¿issues?

As you may know from my last thread I destroyed one of my rear tires by driving 3 blocks with a flat.

Tomorrow I will replace the tire and after that I will have 1 used rear tire (with 5000 kms use) and one totally new.

Both tires are same brand, model and size so I don´t really expect any issues, but it makes me wonder....

I think that replacing one at a time makes a smaller hole in my wallet (675 dollars each)

I think in general, replacing just one rear tire is not a good idea. I would argue that with 5000km on that tire, the tire is 30% worn, which is enough to make the ride uneven.. I would replace both and try to sell the used tire separately. I know it's not what you want to hear my that's my take on it.

I agree. I would never replace just one tyre on an axle - even if I was talking about a cheap runaround car, let alone a 964.

HA - come to America and you'll see everything. We run tires until they're balder than Yul Brynner. So 5000 klics is what, 3000 miles? Not much. I have a 1st.-gen. Volvo AWD that will waste the drivetrain if the tires are not almost perfectly matched. But absent mechanical considerations, on a regular car I'd say no problemo. Now your Porsche, that's a different story. Is that you on the track there? No way I do it in those conditions. As a daily driver that you're not pushing to 9/10th's, ehhh... If it were a choice between buying the tire and letting the car sit, I'd probably buy one tire and drive it. But if you possibly can, buy a pair.

Thanks for your answers...and advice

No way I could buy 2 new rear tires right now, best chance I have is to buy one now and the other in 6 months after I finish paying the first one

Hmmm... that would only swap your same problem over to the other side then.

I would say, buy the one you need to have now, and after you pay it off, start saving for a pair of new ones.

Really my friend, in my 964 delaying 6 months the tire buy, probably means less than 1000 miles - I really don´t expect this to be an issue
the destroyed tire - with 5000 kms - was bought a year and a half ago

Gotta love Rennlist answers: No! Yes. Maybe...

(And, yeah -- I agree with 'em all.)

Take your brand new , freaking expensive tire and pay someone to cut it down and shorten its life .
Watch your money go up in smoke at your expense ?

Good Lord.

Glad some folks have money to burn (or shave off).

In this case , it would be just a light trim of only one tire ...
Not a lot of wasted money or rubber .
Just trim the new one to match the one with 5000k on it .

On the up side , that tire is going to be very round .
