Long time listener, first time caller. I just purchased a '92 Cabriolet. I went to put my son in the back seat and the rear seat belts pulled all the way out and did not spring back in. It's almost like there is no "spring back" mechanism in there. Am I missing something? Any ideas?
That's interesting Hawk, that's almost what it looks like. After looking at other 964's at a Concours this weekend, my rear seats looks different. Thanks for the info, I guess I am going to have to dig in a little.
DOT changed the seat belt laws, hence the change to the rear seat structure in the 993. They come with integrated shoulder harness, rather than lap belts. Rumor is Porsche couldn't change quickly enough for the laws, so in '92 they simply put the rear luggage dump on instead.
The belt was rubbing ever so slightly on the hole cover in the rear wall panel - i.e. where the seat belt disappears into the unknown.
I was getting ready to take the back panel off to get to the seat belt, unscrewed the 4 screws, went to lift it up and the seat belt retracted! Tried pullling it out a few times and giving the panel a lift lift and it worked.
So I screwed it all back on but gave the panel a little lift before tightening them fully and it's now fine!
There was no noticeable sign the belt was catching so it may be worth you trying the same trick on yours.
