Default Grubby Hubs!!

I am planning to get my brake calipers refurbed and powder coated red. But when I look at the wheels/brakes/hubs through the 17" cup 1's I have on it strikes me that the hubs look rusty and dull and bring down the overall appearance of the set up.

Have you treated your hubs and painted/coated silver or black? Details as to how you went about this very welcome.

That's often a sign of aftermarket brake discs, Ian. I know Robmug has done this - I seem to remember he did a little write up on here - if only Search lived up to the big red letters...

I simply painted the "hats" of the front rotors. I used a dark silver. Still looks fine.

Same here but used black high temp paint after rubbing down the rusty front zimmermans fitted to mine. These have no paint when new, while the Sebro aftermarket rotors come with painted grey hats just like Porsche rotors.

Do not paint the hubs, they have machined surfaces that mate with the back of the rotor and the paint will cause a problem.

POR-15 works perfectly for the rotor "hat" area. 3 steps; clean, etch, finish & viola - you've got a finish that looks like an epoxy coat and is damn near impervious to all but thermonuclear events.

The nice thing about POR is the turn-key kit. And brushing the finish coat allows a great deal of control. Fear not the brushing; the finish coat really floats out to a very, very smooth and flat finish.

My body shop owning pal had originally given me the head's up on POR-15, subsequently glad he did.

See: http://www.por15.com/Complete-Kits/products/11/

No affiliation. Just works as advertised (what a concept).

I used gray spray on Rustoleum paint 3 years ago and they still look as good as when they were first done.

Anyone have a nice color photo of a recent Porsche's hub paint?

(Curious as to see the actual grayness/silverness/etc.)

Thanks ahead of time!

no. I let it dry for a couple of days. A little paint has come off the face around the bolts but not much.

These are the new sebro discs I put on the car shortly after I bought it. You can see the grey primer paint they came with on the faces and in the vents. I only sprayed the hats with matt black high temp paint:

p.s. the weedy 2 pots got replaced last year

Yep, easy to do...but you need the right paint...can't remember what I used.

...and I could do with doing the rears on the GT3, so if anyone can suggest the right paint...
