Default HELP..i am not able to set the time on my clock

all,

for the first time i tried to set the time on my clock and nothing happens when i press the small switch under the dash...

could this be a faulty switch? or might the clock have an internal problem.

it keeps perfect time but i disconnected the battery the other day and time is off.

if i unplug the clock connector, will this throw a warning light or cause any problems when car is running?

It could be faulty, or maybe just dirty. I know I have to hold mine in at a certain angle and pressure or it will not work. It also seems to require half a second to a second, depressed, before any movement starts on the clock hands. I don't know about unplugging the connector.

Mine is exactly the same - I have to press it very hard, at just the right angle for it to work. Might be that your switch is equally tempremental.

I have an idea, zero cost... Right down time set on your clock onto a post it note. Disconnect battery. Wait until the next day or night at the exact time that you have written on the note. Connect Battery. Clock time will then be correct. A bit old-school but will work.

If you start the car with the clock itself disconnected you will likely get an airbag warning light, that you'll need the diag tool (or Hammer) to reset. The clock seems to be the system's epicenter for lots of electrical things.

The switch on the clock for setting time goes bad, and is a separate item. Just gently pry it loose. In my car I took it out and cleaned the contacts. Works fine now.

We've just been afflicted with the same problem. To diagnose the problem - does anyone know if we can put a jumper on the two wires on the switch to by-pass the switch. We tested the ground wire and it's good and the green/brown wire which goes between the clock and the switch has continuity. Appreciate any comments/thoughts?

switch update: today i pressed the switch with great force for 30 seconds and the clock hand started to set the time...it only lasted about 5 seconds and stopped...i tried again with no luck...i pulled the switch and cleaned the contacts on the outer portion of the switch and reconnected wire leades and still no luck...

i assume it is the swith since the hands did move for me..

can the switch be taken apart for cleaning??

I'd say your diagnosis is probably correct. Have you priced a new switch from Sunset? Even with the 'Porsche Surcharge', it might not be that expensive. Just a thought.

i agree new switch is the way to go...i use dC automotive...they are great and have excellent used parts...

it was suggested i try douching the swicth with cleaner and move the switch rocker to see if it will free up the crap inside...

doesn't look like there is anyway to open it up without destroying it.
