Cracked gearbox / transmission mount (Tiptronic)
Hi chaps
Whilst poking around under the car, I noticed this crack in the tiptronic
gearbox, end plate case.
This raises a number number of questions, not least "what the hell am
I going to do about it?"
So questions:
1) Is the casting made of aluminium? (alooominom for those in the US )
2) Can the end plate be removed by unbolting the gearbox brace and gently
lowering that end of the gearbox whilst still attached to the car/engine?
3) Are all of the gears going to slide forward or become misaligned when
the plate is removed? (or anything else nasty).
4) Any ideas on where I could source a replacement?
Thanks as always for your help.

Hi chaps
Sorry, this isn't a very exciting post. Just thought I'd post my solution in the
unlikely event it's helpful to anyone else.
I spent ages trying to find someone who would weld the old piece back on,
but it was a fruitless search. I also tried to find a used cover plate, but again,
no luck. So I hatched another plan to create a strong, new mount.
Last weekend I finally got around to fitting a replacement mount I had had
fabricated. I ground down what remained of the strengthening webs on the
under side (leaving the webs above, which are slightly wider apart, intact)
and slid the new mount into place.
Anyway, all bolted up lovely and really strong now.
