Default Flatbed on its way - need to know tiedown points

Car broke, making loud thumping sound in engine compartment, dependent on RPM, not speed. And we're out of town also.

The flatbed is on its way. I'd like to make sure the flatbed driver ties the car down in the proper place(s), but I've never had to do this before.

Can anyone tell me where the car should be anchored, please?

1990 C4 Cabriolet

Much thanks,

Tony

You should have a tow hook in your took kit that screws into a hole in your front bumper. Use this to move the car onto the flatbed

I would suggest for tie down the operator use straps through the wheels.

Sorry to hear this happened to you...

My first choice wold be to use the wheels and run the rope between the spokes, unless you have the D90s.

If that's not an option, there are "ears" in the front wheel well where you can tie it to, as well as run the rope around the rear A-arms.

And you can use the tow hook for the front or rear.

Good luck!

Thanks, Bob and Ilko. I have the D90s, and I don't remember seeing a tow hook. I'll push that we use the "ears" and A-arms.

The tow hook would be in the car's tool kit, if it's there.
If there, you'll have to pop off a little front bumper cap, right (?) side. Pop cap, screw in.
Front A-arms, rear banana arms, I'd thought.

Thanks, Lonnie. Unfortunately, no tow hook. I appreciate the help.

Over the top of the tires .
Hold down the whole wheel with straps .
No paint damage , no damage to suspension parts .

Next time you are having work done on the car, it's a good idea to install Autometrics tie down hooks...just for times like these:

964 (1989-1994) Front and Rear $39.95

Some of the tow truck drivers have tow hooks with them for cars like these. Not to much up front I would use to drag it up on a flat bed without the hook. Maybe best to drive it up if you can.

Thanks, Lewis and Jim. Got the car home OK, strapped down by front A-arms and rear trailing arms. Driver had both wheel straps, and Porsche tow hook. . . in his other flatbed (not available!).

Anyway, all home now safe and sound. Mechanic having a look-see today.

Thanks again for all your advice.
