Scantool Com port troubles
I have 2 computers I have been trying to get scantool 4 to open on. They both are looking for Com 1. I have tried everything I can think of to get it to work. The web site with the software says to go into you windows .INI file to change it to com 2 however I dont have a scantool INI file. I am mostly trying to set it upon my Win98 laptop as it has a 9 pin plug on it but am having the same issue on my Vista one. I had it working perfect on my 2 lap tops that got stolen in Sept and havent been able to set it up again!
thanks the little hair I have left is quickly being puled out

Jim, i went back and looked at my old notebook that had connected to the car a few times and there was a ScanTool.ini in the c:\windows dir
I added the statement to change the com port to 5 in my case and it seems to work with my usb com port device. so if you can created a file called ScanTool.ini in c:\windows and put the following in it "not sure what com port you have"
[Comm Settings]
port=COM5
[Input Channels]
Track.0=1
Track.1=1
Track.2=1
Track.3=1
Track.4=1
Track.5=1
Track.6=1
Track.7=1
[Actual Values]
Track.Intake Air Temp (°F)=1
Track.Cylinder Head Temp (°F)=1
Track.AFM Voltage=1
Track.rpm=1
Track.Injector Time=1
Track.Ignition Advance=1
Track.Adapted IAC trim=1

thanks I will give it a try
EDIT: I did what you said and its working great! Thanks for the help. I spent hours trying to get this to work on my old Win98 machine. Now I am off to the garage to do some checking. This is what is great about the Rennlist community
EDIT 2: Hooked it up to the car and it connected right away like it would on my stolen laptop. Guess Win98 is still a usable program on a 10+ year old laptop that I had laying around in the back of a closet
